The Pick a Reading Partner (PARP) program returns to Rensselaer Park Elementary for 2024! PARP is an annual PTA-sponsored program inspiring RPES students and families/friends to read together. The 2024 PARP program runs from March 1 - March 28, 2024.
2024 Rensselaer Park PARP Theme & Events
The 2024 PARP theme is "The RPES Reading Extravaganza" and it will take students on a reading tour of the New York State Fair.
Each classroom has a farm animal that they decorated to represent their class. The farm animal will move throughout the "fairgrounds," inside the school based on the number of minutes their class reads. Each hallway of RPES represents a different part of the fair. The program is designed to engage our students in reading and to enhance their knowledge of the New York State Fair.
The class at each grade level that reads the most minutes, will earn the Golden Midway Ticket (created to represent the Midway at the fair). Students will also have the opportunity to be featured on "PARParazzi" bulletin boards in our cafeteria.
On Monday, March 4, there will be the "Barnyard Knight Reading Frenzy" for group reading with friends and family. The annual Literacy Night (known this year as "A Knight at the Midway") full of literacy-themed activities will take place on Thursday, March 21.
How to Participate in PARP
The RPES PARP 2024 website here has everything you will need to participate!
1. Pick a Reading Partner
Your RPES student picks a reading partner (a parent, grandparent, older sibling, friend, etc.) they will read with during PARP.
2. Fill Out the Extravaganza Participant Application
Once students have chosen a reading partner, fill out the 2024 Extravaganza Participant Application here.
3. Track Minutes Students Spend Reading During March
Participating students should try to read for at least 20 minutes each day with their reading partner during PARP. Each grade level has reading logs where students track their daily minutes read. Reading logs are available on the 2024 PARP website.
