Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) ambassadors visited 6th-grade classes to work with our students on interactive science demonstrations focused on wind energy and rising sea levels.

See pictures from their visit on Google here.

Wind Energy

Classes were introduced to the principles of wind energy, its importance as a renewable resource, how it can be converted to electricity and the technology involved in wind farms. Students also built their own small wind turbines.

Rising Sea Levels

The RPI team presented data on our planet's rising sea levels, using interactive models to demonstrate how they impact coastal communities and ecosystems. This led to students discussing potential solutions and adaptations that could slow rising sea levels.

This was a great visit and we thank the RPI visitors for spending time with our 6th graders, many of whom expressed an interest in learning more about renewable energy and climate science after!
