In December, Lansingburgh's elementary students took trips to the Lansingburgh Boys & Girls Club for introductory water safety/learn to swim sessions! These trips were part of the New York Swims Initiative and were a collaborative effort between the Lansingburgh Central School District, the Lansingburgh Boys & Girls Club, and Hudson Valley Community College.

Thanks to grant funding from the NY Swims Initiative, during the past six months, Lansingburgh CSD, the Boys & Girls Club, and Hudson Valley worked together on a pilot program to host these swimming sessions for elementary students and offer free lifeguard certification/recertification courses for students aged 15+.*

With these efforts a big success and with further NY Swims grant funding now approved, the district is excited to announce it will build upon these 2025 efforts and continue this collaboration with the same community partners in 2026! More information will be shared with Lansingburgh families about student opportunities for free lifeguard certifications and water safety/learn to swim sessions as they are finalized throughout the year.

*Part of Governor Hochul's New York Swims state-wide initiative is expanding access to safe swimming by addressing the state's lifeguard shortage and increasing swimming instruction.
