If you have not met him yet, join us in welcoming Lansingburgh Central School District's new Athletic Director - Mike Robbins - who joined the Lansingburgh team in February!
With spring sports about to be up and running, many may have had the chance to meet him, but in case you have not had the opportunity yet we checked in so you could learn a bit more about him.
Tell us a little about yourself and your background.
I served the past 5 and a half years as the Athletic Director for Waterford-Halfmoon, where I also taught physical education and coached the varsity baseball team. Before Waterford, I worked as a High School Assistant Principal in the Cobleskill-Richmondville School District.
Over 15+ years of educational experience, I've taught PK-12 Physical Education, Adapted Physical Education, and Health, while coaching several sports (in addition to baseball) including football, basketball, wrestling and soccer. I currently serve on Section 2's Executive Committee as their 2nd Vice President. I am also an alum of SUNY Cortland, UAlbany and MCLA.
What drew you to Lansingburgh as a place you wanted to work?
I was drawn to Lansingburgh's great tradition and solid foundation. Growing up for a time in Lansingburgh and attending Catholic Central High School, I saw firsthand how impressive Lansingburgh's Community and Athletic Programs were and still are. The athletic facilities here are second to none and allow our programs to compete at a very high level.
What's something about you and your work style you want everyone in Lansingburgh to know right off the bat?
As an athletic director, you serve so many different constituents: students, coaches, faculty & staff, families, administrators and fans/alumni. Experience has taught me that all those groups are different as far as what’s important to them.
I try to meet people where they are to better understand their needs and wants and see how I can best serve them as part of the big picture. I’ll work as hard as I can to earn the respect of Lansingburgh's constituents and develop relationships based on credibility.
Finally, what's life like outside of work for you?
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with family and friends. My wife and I have a 6-year-old son and his social and athletics calendar keeps us busy. I’m also an avid sports fan who loves the New York Mets, the New York Giants, North Carolina Basketball and Penn State Football.
