Superintendent Memo (Nov. 19): Consent for COVID Testing & Providing Vaccination Proof

November 17, 2021

The following message from Lansingburgh Superintendent, Dr. Abitabile, was emailed to all Lansingburgh families on Friday, November 19.

This memo outlines the process for providing consent for in-school COVID-19 testing for unvaccinated students and providing documentation for the district if a student is vaccinated. Families who do not want to give consent for in-school testing do not have to fill out the Family ID Testing Consent Form.

All school reopening news and COVID-19 updates can be found on the district’s 2021-2022 Reopening Updates page here.

Lansingburgh School Community,

The District is now required by the New York State Department of Health (NYS DOH) to test unvaccinated staff and offer to test unvaccinated students whose parents or guardians consent to weekly testing.

General surveillance testing will be used to detect asymptomatic COVID-19 infections in unvaccinated students and staff using a non-invasive rapid antigen test.  To see a video demonstration of a test being administered, click this link:  https://youtu.be/AvFLbHbt1bs. These tests will be performed on-site at your child’s school once a week in each building. The intent is to use the screening testing results as a protective measure to identify and isolate asymptomatic positive persons to prevent spread.

PLEASE NOTE THAT STUDENTS WHO ARE FULLY VACCINATED ARE:

  • EXEMPT FROM WEEKLY TESTING
  • EXEMPT FROM QUARANTINE IF ASYMPTOMATIC IN THE EVENT OF A HIGH-RISK EXPOSURE

If your child HAS BEEN RECENTLY VACCINATED and has not notified the District yet, you can complete the following form on FamilyID to upload an image of your vaccination card or screenshot from the Excelsior Pass.  Please click this link: COVID Vaccination Verification form Family ID

If your child IS NOT FULLY VACCINATED, we are asking that all parents/guardians please indicate their consent for these tests by completing an online form on FamilyID. Please click this link:  COVID Testing Consent Form Family ID

We anticipate that surveillance testing will begin for unvaccinated students and staff in early December.  Regular testing will help protect everyone against COVID-19.  Thank you for your continued flexibility, resilience, and patience as we work together to contain the spread of this virus.

Respectfully,

Dr. Antonio W. Abitabile, Ed. D.

Superintendent of Schools
