Superintendent Memo (June 16): Update on Class of 2021 Graduation Ceremony
June 16, 2021
The following message from District Superintendent, Dr. Abitabile, was emailed to all Lansingburgh families on Wednesday, June 16. Please review it carefully as it contains updated plans for the Class of 2021 Graduation Ceremony based on recent guidance from the New York State Department of Health.
We received communication today from the NYS Department of Health clarifying that end-of-year events in schools ARE INCLUDED in the lifting of the state’s health guidelines, now that NYS has surpassed the vaccination threshold of 70%. These activities have been determined to be different from in-person academic instruction and/or extracurricular activities, where these restrictions are still applicable.
As such, I am excited to announce that the LCSD Class of 2021 Commencement Ceremony on Friday, June 25th has been moved back to its original location inside the LHS gym. Each graduate will receive six (6) tickets for their guests to attend the ceremony. Tickets are distributed at graduation rehearsal directly to the students.
With the new guidance, there is no requirement for health attestations, vaccines, COVID-19 testing, social distancing, etc. The only requirement is that any person attending the ceremony who is not vaccinated is required to wear a mask.
All other End of Year, “Moving Up” ceremonies, etc. will remain as previously scheduled.
I think we can all agree that it has been an incredibly difficult year, especially for our seniors, and we are thrilled to be able to offer them all the Pomp and Circumstance that they have rightfully earned.
