PICTURES: Students Help Australia's Mammals

2/10/2020 - You've likely heard in the past few months that Australia has been dealing with devastating fires. Among the many issues facing the country right now because of the fires is the huge number of displaced animals.

Ms. Schweda's 4th-grade class joined in the effort to help some of Australia's displaced mammals, specifically the marsupials (koalas and kangaroos) living in rescue centers. The mother of a student in Mr. Schweda's class visited and helped the class sew pouches for these mammals who no longer have their mother's pouches.

Ms. Schweda's class also created thank you cards for the Australian animal rescue workers and "adopted" a young koala living in one of the rescue sanctuaries. The homemade pouches and cards will now be sent off to Australia.
