Superintendent Memo (Dec. 5): Loss of a Former Student
December 5, 2022
Lansingburgh School Community,
It is with great sadness that I need to inform everyone that one of our Lansingburgh families has suffered a great loss over the weekend. I received word on Sunday morning that one of our former students, Danielle Marceline, was vacationing in Florida and drowned while swimming in the ocean. One of her friends, Mary Doyle, also a former Lansingburgh student, was with her and was rescued by the lifeguards.
Danielle, her mother Chris and her friend Mary were vacationing in Florida to celebrate Danielle’s 18th birthday, which would have been yesterday. Danielle was a senior who transferred to Catholic High two years ago and was a student in Lansingburgh until 10th grade. In speaking to some of her teachers, she was an absolute pleasure to have in class, bringing smiles to those around her. She was also a leader on the court for the volleyball and basketball teams that she played on.
I also wanted to make sure you were aware of this traumatic news so that you have a chance to speak with your children about it if you wish. It is possible your child will hear about this student’s passing from others and talking with them will be the best way to know how this is affecting them. Please know our counseling team will be in school all week, ready and available for any student who needs their support.
To assist your children, I am attaching three reference documents to this communication: Talking about Death and Dying with your Kids, Parent Guidelines for Helping Youth After a Recent Shooting and Answering Childrens’ Questions about Death. Please take a moment to review them so that you can be better prepared to talk with your children about this.
Once the details of the funeral services become available, I will share them with all of you.
