Superintendent Memo (July 8): COVID Protocol Updates for Summer Students & Staff

July 8, 2021

The following message from District Superintendent, Dr. Abitabile, was emailed to all Lansingburgh families on Thursday, July 8.

It concerns recent changes to Lansingburgh's COVID protocols for Summer 2021 students and staff only based on the latest New York State Department of Health guidance. New York State school reopening guidance for the start of the school year in September 2021 has still not been released at this time.

Dr. Abitabile's message is also available on district letterhead here.

All school reopening news and COVID-19 updates can be found on the district’s Reopening Updates page here.

Lansingburgh School Community,

We received notification yesterday of some changes to our current COVID-19 health and safety protocols for students and staff who are in our buildings during the summer. Below are some of the key changes:

    1. Anyone (student or staff) who has been fully vaccinated is no longer required to wear a mask.
    2. Students who are NOT fully vaccinated are now STRONGLY RECOMMENDED to wear a mask while indoors but can remove their masks when eating or outdoors.
    3. Unvaccinated staff are required to wear a mask at all times while indoors.
    4. When possible, 6-foot social distancing in classrooms will be maintained.
    5. Unvaccinated children must continue to wear a mask while on a bus.
    6. No daily health attestation will be used during the summer.
    7. To maintain everyone’s privacy, the District will not be asking for proof of vaccination and are relying on everyone to use their best judgment.

We are still waiting for guidance for the opening of school in September and will keep our school community updated as that becomes available.

Ever Upwards,

Dr. Antonio W. Abitabile, Ed. D.
LCSD Superintendent
