The following message from District Superintendent, Dr. Abitabile, was emailed to all Lansingburgh families on Tuesday, February 1.

Dr. Abitabile's message is also available on district letterhead here

All school reopening news and COVID-19 updates can be found on the district’s Reopening Updates page here.

Lansingburgh School Community,

In a continued effort to keep all of you up to date on the latest news regarding the reopening of our buildings, the following decisions were made last night, in regards to athletics:

  1. Winter Sports - We are postponing the Winter Sports season this year.  The district typically offers three different sports during this season.

    1. The Bowling season began months ago and will conclude in about a week.

    2. Wrestling, given what we know about the spread of COVID and the importance of social distancing, is too risky at this time.

    3. Basketball still has several uncertainties as well. As a member of the Colonial Council, there are only a couple of schools that are eligible to play. This is due to the decisions of our neighboring county health departments not to allow high-risk sports. At this time, we do not even have a clear schedule of games to plan for.

  2. Fall II and Spring Sports - The District will be fully participating in both seasons.  We are currently working on safety guidelines for these sports.  However, off-season training sessions can begin as soon as Monday, February 8th.  AD Colfer will be working with our coaching staff to ensure all activities are thoroughly planned and adhere to safety guidelines that the District currently follows.

  3. Modified Sports - Due to difficulty with available practice facilities, transportation and available competitors, all modified sports are postponed for this school year.

Understanding the impact of athletics on our student-athletes, I look forward to having our students return to our classes and playing fields in the coming weeks.

Please continue to check the website for updates about our reopening, take the reopening survey by clicking HERE and try to attend our live Q&A sessions with our building administrators on February 9th-11th.

Dr. Antonio W. Abitabile, Ed. D.
