STAR Tax Exemption

  • May 16, 2019 - Please Read and Share: It’s come to our attention that some members of the community are spreading misinformation online about STAR Tax Exemptions and their relation to the upcoming school budget vote on Tuesday, May 21.

The rumors online claiming Lansingburgh School District residents will lose their STAR Tax Exemption if the 2019-2020 school budget passes are categorically untrue.

Residents would still receive their STAR Tax Exemption on their tax bill but would no longer receive a check in the mail through the STAR Credit Program if they were eligible prior.

Of note is that the STAR Credit amount residents received prior would likely be less than the amount a Lansingburgh parent would spend on school supplies. A key part of a voter-approved 19-20 Budget would be the District purchasing all school supplies for all students as they did this school year.

Again, the STAR Tax Exemption, which is a credit toward your tax bill, is completely unaffected by the 2019-2020 school budget passing. Residents will still receive STAR Tax Exemption even if the budget passes.

If you see community members spreading incorrect information about the STAR exemption and its relation to the 19-20 school budget, we encourage correcting their error. Thank you for your assistance.
