New York State Next Generation Learning Standards

In September 2017, the Board of Regents adopted the P-12 New York State Next Generation Learning Standards for English language arts (ELA) and Mathematics.

As New York prepares to fully implement Next Generation Learning Standards, we want to make sure Lansingburgh families understand them and how they differ from Common Core Learning Standards.

We know parents/guardians have questions about Next Generation Learning Standards and how they affect their children’s education. In an effort to ensure Lansingburgh parents/guardians prepare for the transition to the Next Generation Learning Standards, we are linking the informational guide from the New York State Education Department (NYSED) on this page.

NYSED collaborated with multiple partners, including parents, to develop a resource that facilitates and promotes parental involvement and engagement. This resource provides the following:

  • A description of the instructional cycle and the role of learning standards in the cycle
  • An FAQ for the Next Generation Learning Standards
  • Links and resources to support classroom learning at home

You are encouraged to take time and look through all this, so you have a better understanding of what these new educational standards mean for students.
