The latest memo from Lansingburgh Superintendent, Dr. Abitabile, is available below. This memo contains information about Lansingburgh's tentative reopening plan for the 2020-2021 school year and an expected timeline for announcing final, state-approved plans. This message was also emailed to all Lansingburgh families earlier today

Dear Lansingburgh Students, Families and Caregivers,

I wanted to give everyone an update on the progress made planning for the reopening of schools in September. Our goal is to be fully staffed and with as many students as possible returning safely to schools. As you can imagine, with bus transportation at roughly 50% capacity and social distance requirements strictly adhered to while in schools, it certainly presents some challenges. Currently, the plan allows for all students in grades EPK-8th grade, English as New Language (ENL) and self-contained Special Education students to return to school in person daily. High school students will most likely follow a hybrid model, with classes being held in person some days and remotely on others. At this time, we do not anticipate having greater than 50% of the high school students physically present on any given day. For days that students are not physically in class, remote instruction will be occurring daily. This allows for more contact time with teachers than we had during our closure in the Spring. Students will be following more of a formal daily schedule than the weekly schedule format that we used previously.

To learn more about the specifics of each building reopening, individual principals will be communicating with families once our plans are finalized. I anticipate that being around the second week in August. At that time, we will ask families to make the decision about having their children return to school. If the choice is made not to return, fully online instruction will be provided to them for a specified length of time and again revisited at a later date to determine if you would like to continue remotely or return to school.

The deadline for submitting the official reopening document to the NYS Education Department is Friday, July 31st and we will be posting our reopening plan to our website for public view at that time as well. Governor Cuomo is expected to make a decision on reopening schools by August 7th and based on his decision, there will more than likely be some modifications to the plan at that time. We have a Board of Education Workshop scheduled for Monday, August 17th, where finalized plans will be shared during a presentation. The meeting will be livestreamed and the link will be shared in advance if you choose to view it.

As always, I appreciate your patience while we continue working towards having the most effective school opening possible given the current conditions.

    Ever Upwards,

    Dr. Antonio W. Abitabile,

    Ed. D. LCSD Superintendent

Please read the following memo from Lansingburgh Superintendent, Dr. Abitabile, about the status of the 2020-2021 school year re-opening plan timeline. This memo was also emailed to all Lasingburgh parents/caregivers earlier today:

    Dear Lansingburgh School Community,

During his daily briefing today, Governor Cuomo gave an update on reopening schools in September. To date, district employees have had various discussions to begin planning for different scenarios (in-person, remote and hybrid), ranging from the social/emotional needs of our staff and students to the additional resources needed, such as personal protective equipment, cleaning supplies, etc. Today, Governor Cuomo indicated that this guidance will be released on July 13. Individual school district reopening plans will be due to the state by July 31 and the Governor will make a decision on reopening during the week of August 1.

As you can imagine, we have a lot of work to finalize a reopening plan that ensures the safety of our students and staff. We ask for your patience as we work through this process.

Preliminary Reopening Plan for 2020-2021 School Year

  • July 31, 2020

View the complete proposed Lansingburgh 2020-2021 School Year Reopening Plan here. This document was submitted to New York State on July 31, 2020, and outlines three possible learning models.

As noted in Dr. Abitabile's July 23 memo to families (scroll down to find it), the district plan allows for younger grades to follow the In-Person Learning Plan, while students in older high school grades would follow the Hybrid Learning Plan (a mix of in-person and online).

All final plans are pending Governor Cuomo's final decision on school reopenings during the first week of August. The final reopening plan will be presented at the August 17 board meeting which will be available for public viewing.
