Jazz Ensemble to Play in Caribbean
The Lansingburgh High School's Jazz Ensemble will make an early April trip to the Caribbean where it will stage two performances under the direction of high school music teacher Kevin Champagne.
The 19-member group will perform once aboard the Royal Caribbean cruise ship, and again in Nassau, The Bahamas, while on the trip. The group departs on April 4 and returns on April 7.
"It's a great trip for the students because it allows them to see the world a little," said Champagne, who was also involved with a similar trip for district musicians six years ago. "Something like this becomes the highlight of their high school career. It's something the students who went six years ago still talk about."
Champagne said the trip also encourages students to work hard to improve.
"It's an incentive for them to get better, and it makes it more enjoyable for them when we hold some after-school rehearsals," said Champagne.
Students participating are Amanda Tobias, Sara Alonge, Jessica Zlotnick, Jenna Rowe, Joseph Yonkers, Michael Morgan, Shane Meyers, Alney Tobias, Sabrina Sousis, Stephanie Schabhetl, Emily Simonds, Rose Thompson, Andrea Baer, Karen Moss, Vicky Wei, Andrew Scott, Brian Scott, Benjamin Zautner and Nicholas Martiniano.
