Troy, NY (April 20, 2010)—The Lansingburgh Central School District Board of Education adopted a 2010-11 School Year spending plan at a special meeting held on April 19. Residents will vote on the $38,784,854 spending proposal on May 18, 2010.
The proposed budget carries a tax levy increase of 2.9 percent. However, the school tax bill increase to homeowners will vary depending on equalization rates and the New York State STAR Program. The increase on a home with a full market value of $100,000 would be an estimated $44.28.
The proposal accounts for a spending increase of $624,613 due to increases in utility costs, contractual salaries, contractual services, insurance and other mandated expenditures. Under the plan, there would be a reduction of nine teaching positions and one custodian position through attrition, and reductions of one part time clerical worker and one part time custodial worker. According to Board President Mary Sweeney, “It was definitely a challenge developing a budget that maintains programs and is sensitive to the burden of our District taxpayers in light of an anticipated reduction in state aid of $778,783”.
Voting will take place from 7 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Tuesday, May 18.
Budget Highlights
The proposed 2010-11 budget maintains the core educational program and services to students as provided in the current school year. Staff reductions, mostly through attrition, have helped to reduce the tax impact from State Aid reductions.
