Superintendent’s Message

On April 19, the Lansingburgh Central School District Board of Education will be acting upon adoption of a 2010-2011 school year budget to be put to the voters on May 18, 2010.

The budget includes a 1.63% increase in expenditures, totaling $38,784,854, and a 2.9% increase on the local tax levy. Under the plan, there would be a reduction of nine teaching positions and one custodian position through attrition, and reductions of one part time clerical worker and one part time custodial worker.

The proposed budget maintains all academic and extracurricular programs.

According to Board President Mary Sweeney, “It was definitely a challenge developing a budget that maintains programs and is sensitive to the burden of our District taxpayers in light of an anticipated reduction in state aid of $778,783”.

A public hearing will be held on May 10, 2010, at 7:30 p.m. in the Knickerbacker Middle School auditorium. Preceding the budget hearing will be a “Meet the Candidates Night” at 7 p.m. On May 12, 2010, from Noon to 6 p.m. voter registration will take place for unregistered voters.

Voting for the District budget and Board of Education candidates will be held from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. on May 18, 2010. Voting locations are at Knickerbacker Middle School, Turnpike Elementary School and Speigletown Fire House.
