Once again, KMS Student Council sponsored Red Ribbon Week, a nationally recognized event to educate students about the risks of drug and alcohol abuse, while promoting healthy lifestyles.
Red Ribbon Week History:
In 1985, a man by the name of Enrique Camarena, a special agent for the Drug Enforcement Administration, was murdered tragically while fighting the war on drugs. In memory of him, his friends and family in Calexico California, started Red Ribbon Week in his honor.
Each day of Red Ribbon Week, Student Council members assisted with the morning announcements by reading educational facts about drugs and alcohol so that our students have the information they need to make their right choices. Students were encouraged to consider all the people who risk their lives daily in the war on drugs, in hope to keep all of us safe and healthy. Prizes promoting the event were given away each day to lottery winners. On Thursday, October 30th, faculty and students wore red to recognize this important event.
The event was once again a great success!
