Lansingburgh School District Board of Education Adopts 2009-2010 Spending Plan

May 19th Budget Vote

(April 22, 2009)—The Lansingburgh Central School District Board of Education adopted a 2009-10 School Year spending plan at a special meeting held on April 21. Residents will vote on the $38,160,241 spending proposal on May 19, 2009.

The proposed budget carries a tax levy increase of 1.86 percent. However, the school tax bill increase to homeowners will vary depending on equalization rates and the New York State STAR Program. The increase on a home with a full market value of $100,000 would be an estimated $28.11.

The proposal accounts for a spending increase of $1,533,976, due to increases in utility costs, contractual salaries, contractual services, insurance, and other mandated expenditures. Board President Mary Sweeney stated that “the Board is pleased to be able to present a budget that maintains programs and services for students while keeping the local tax level increase to a minimum. This was particularly challenging as state foundation aid for next school year is frozen at the current year’s level. We appreciate the continued support of the Lansingburgh community and share their pride in our schools”.

“The Board of Education and administration worked diligently to develop a budget that delivers quality educational programs to students while being sensitive to the financial situation in the community. The proposed budget includes elimination of three part time positions and a full time clerical position. Two vacant full time teaching positions will not be filled. Also included in the plan are expenditure reductions in staff overtime, BOCES services, elementary summer school, staff development, and equipment”, according to Superintendent George Goodwin.

Voting will take place from 7 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19.
