Another Honor for ‘Burgh Gridder Chris Sawyer

Lansingburgh High School senior Chris Sawyer recently was recognized as a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete.

The organization’s Section 2 (Capital Region) Chapter, will honor Sawyer and other scholar-athletes at a Monday, May 12th chapter banquet at the Turf Inn on Wolf Road. One football scholar-athlete from each school in the section will be honored at the event.

The National Football Foundation, which provides administrative oversight and support to local chapters throughout the country, seeks to promote and develop the power of amateur football in developing the qualities of leadership, sportsmanship, competitive zeal and the drive for academic excellence in America’s young people.

The foundation’s picks from respective schools are made from criteria that includes outstanding accomplishments on the field and in the classroom. Sawyer, an outstanding student, was also a key member of the 2007 Lansingburgh High School team that advanced to the Class A state championship game. For his work on the field, he had already been honored as a Class A first-team New York State defensive All-Star by the New York State Sportswriters Association.

Sawyer will continue his education and his football career at Springfield (Mass.) College.
