Lansingburgh’s Matthew Madden gains Scholar Recognition

Lansingburgh High School senior Matthew Madden was featured in a special section that appeared in the Thursday, May 8th edition of the Times Union newspaper honoring students from the Scholars’ Recognition Program.

The program honors outstanding scholastic achievement by members of the graduating classes of the public, private, parochial and BOCES secondary schools from 11 counties throughout the Capital Region.

Student scholars are chosen by their respective school districts and, then, are asked to nominate a teacher who has influenced their lives in a significant way. The scholars and their chosen teachers are also feted at a Scholars’ Recognition Dinner.

The Times Union special section included photo of all selected students and teachers.

Madden is valedictorian of Lansingburgh’s Class of 2008, and has excelled in the most rigorous academic AP and college courses. He has made contributions to the school community through his participation in Student Government, the Better ’Burgh Club, GSA, athletic teams and the peer tutoring program. He has also made community contributions through his work with Habitat for Humanity and Literary Volunteers of Rensselaer County.

Madden chose James Wager as his most influential teacher, and noted that, “Mr. Wager has provided a perspective on political science which encourages me to constantly research for the true movers of history.”
