BOE Adopts Spending Plan; Prepares for May 20th Budget Vote
Tax Levy Increase At 1.1 Percent

(April 29, 2008)—The Lansingburgh Central School District Board of Education adopted a $36.6 million spending plan for the 2008-2009 school year at a special meeting held last night. Residents will vote on the $36,626,265 spending proposal on May 20, 2008.

The proposed budget carries a tax levy increase of 1.1 percent. However, the school tax bill increase to homeowners will vary depending on equalization and the STAR Program. The average increase per homeowner is estimated to be $14.33.

The proposal accounts for a spending increase of $2,705,972, reflecting increases in utility costs, contractual salary increases, supplies and materials, contractual services, insurance, mandated programs, instructional technology and the addition of professional personnel. Mrs. Nancy McHugh, Board President, indicated that “the Board of Education is pleased to present a budget that represents a very modest increase in taxes, while addressing the diverse needs of our students and enhancing our technology programs.  We are proud of our school district and are grateful for the continued support of our community.”

“The Board of Education and administration worked diligently to develop a budget that delivers quality educational programs to students while being sensitive to the financial demands of taxpayers in our community.  The proposed budget includes additional programming to support students and maintain the high quality of educational opportunities within our schools.” according to Superintendent George Goodwin.

Voting will take place from 7 a.m. until 9 p.m. on May 20th.

 Budget Highlights

The proposed 2008-2009 budget maintains the core educational program and services to students as provided in the current school year. Additionally, new staffing and programming will be added to accommodate projected enrollments and to provide services to students. The district hopes to expand the use of instructional technology and professional development for its faculty and staff.

The budget includes a $360,631 transfer to the Capital Fund for the purpose of installing new Instructional Technology in our buildings. In making the purchases through the Capital Fund, the district will be eligible to receive state building aid on these expenses.

The School District anticipates the continuation of several competitive State and Federal grants to fund a variety of personnel positions and programs.
