Voters overwhelmingly approve Capital Improvement Project

District voters showed strong support for the $2.9 million Capital Improvement Project, approving it by a vote of 255-39, an 86.7 percent favorable rate, in voting done on Tuesday, Feb. 26.

The project will provide structural building improvements, and safety, security and instructional facility upgrades at the district’s four school buildings.

Among the items addressed will be the redesign of the school bus loop and parking lot at the Turnpike Elementary School. Once completed, the new traffic flow there will ease congestion there, particularly during times students are dropped off and picked up.

The project also involves converting the high school’s existing shop area into a state-of-the-art technology instruction facility, and converting a classroom at the high school into a health office.

The district’s primary auditorium at the Knickerbacker Middle School will be renovated with new sound and lighting systems installed.

The project will be funded entirely through state aid and EXCEL (Expanding our Children’s Education and Learning) aid available to the district. The project will have no tax impact on the local taxpayer.

Project construction is expected to begin in the spring of 2009.

“We are absolutely pleased with the results of the vote,” said superintendent George Goodwin. “With past propositions the community has been very supportive and we are grateful that we have its continued support with this project.”

The Board of Education wishes to thank the residents of Lansingburgh for their commitment to our schools and students of the district.  Without your support the effort for ongoing improvement in programs and facilities would not be impossible.
