September 2009
Listed below you will find the courses offered through Lansingburgh Academy for the 2009-2010 school year. You will find a number of professional development opportunities to assist teachers and staff in increasing student achievement and address N.Y.S. Learning Standards, consistent with the mission and goals of the school district.
Responses to the June 2008 staff development survey gave direction to developing the content for this year’s Lansingburgh Academy courses. Survey responses indicated teachers see the need for staff development in reading and writing in the content areas, technology, and differentiating instruction. You will find several courses addressing these topics at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. Take a few minutes to review the courses offered. Whether you are a beginning or a veteran staff member, you will find an opportunity for professional development.
For the first time, we are offering courses targeted to staff with five or more years’ experience. Want to develop your own web site to communicate with parents and students? We have the course for you. Learn about curriculum mapping or instructional strategies with supportive colleagues. Think about joining a book study group or recommending a book study.
First-year and second-year staff members are required to take the 15-hour Lansingburgh Academy courses designed for them. Third-year staff are required to take 15 hours of Lansingburgh Academy courses listed in this book, with the exception of the courses specific to first and second-year staff members.
All Lansingburgh Academy courses have prior approval. You do not need to apply for prior approval for inservice credit for these courses. Signing in at all courses is important because that determines the number of credits earned. Inservice is credited based on the contractual definition of one credit per 15 hours, in groups of 15 hours.
Prior registration for all courses is required, especially in ordering materials for book study groups. Additional courses in instructional technology will be added in the near future. Check on course descriptions, dates, and new course updates at www.lansingburgh.org. Please complete the registration form found below and return it to my office by Friday, September 18, 2009.
