Olympics of the Visual Arts Results
Teams from Rensselaer Park Elementary and Lansingburgh High School competed in the Olympics of the Visual Arts competition which took place Tuesday April 28th at the Saratoga City Center. New York State Art Teachers Association (NYSATA) sponsors the event each year. It is a state wide competition where competitors are given artistic challenges which must be solved and presented in the form of a portfoilio and the actual art work. Categories range from drawing and painting to architecture and fashion design.
Rensselaer Park Elementary School is pleased to announce that we had six teams at the competition.
- Finishing first place in New York State was our Fashion Team who made celebrity costumes for Malia Obama and Bindi Irwin. Winners include Krystianna Barre, Natalie Tidings, Whitney Taitt, Ashley Taitt, Callie Beck and Natasha Bierwirth.
- Our drawing team took a first place prize with their design based upon the work of M.C. Escher. Winners are third grade students Shaina Milam and Kianna Tucker.
- Our first place photography team studied the tale of St. George slaying the dragon. We took a series of six pictures depicting this event. Winners include John Hatch, Steven Roy, Julian Foy, Franklin Rings, Andrew Haupt, Kaila Franz.
- The jewelry team received a second place prize. Winners include Paul Haupt, Imani Knowles, Lea Simmons, Selena Carter and Carriebell Young.
- Our sculpture team member studied fractals and was interviewed by the Post Star. Julian Foy represented Rensselaer Park in this division.
- Finally, an illustration team studied Mars and planned a new settlement. Team members include Michael Nielsen, Ashley Taitt, Isaiah Bruce and Jacob Lewis.
- The advisor for our teams is Christine McGurrin. She celebrates her 20th year as an OVA coach for Rensselaer Park ES.
Lansingburgh High School is very proud to announce we had two second place winners.
- Aaron Barker and his older sister Micaela won second place for Architecture and Sarah Gardner won second place for Painting.
