Pratt Bowls High Average
Congratulations to Rebecca Pratt of the girls bowling team. Rebecca achieved the highest average in the Colonial Council with a score of 219 making her the council's MVP. She placed 2nd in sectionals and will move on the the Section 2 All-Star Team which competes this Saturday, March 7th in Rochester, NY. Good luck Rebecca!
Track and Field State Championship
Lansingburgh seniors Michela Barker competed in the New York State Championships in the 1500m Racewalk (9:34), and Alney Tobias in the 1000m dash (2:31.4). [View photos from the event]
Tobias Competes in New Balance Meet
Alney Tobias competed at the New Balance Collegiate meet in New York City's New Balance Armory Track and Field Center on Feb. 5th, 2010. The meet is for colleges but invites a select group of athletes to compete in high school showcase races. Alney was invited because he was ranked in the top five in the NATION in the 1000m dash. After a short wait, Alney competed in what turned out to be an incredibly exciting race finishing less then one second behind the national leader and finishing third in the race runing a 2:28 in the 1000m. This finish moved Alney to third in the USA, and was his personal record for the event. Presenting Alney with his third place medal was US Olympic Great Carl Lewis, who was very interested and eager to talk track and field with Alney.
Boys Track and Field Team Wins Sectionals
At the Sectional Championship Meet that was held at the University at Albany on February 21st, 2010 the Lansingburgh Boys Track and Field Team won their first ever Sectional Championship defeating Ichabod Crane 82 to 77. The Knights were carried by performance of Terrance Kemp(Sectional Champion in the High Hurdles-8.64 and Triple Jump-41'7"), Alney Tobias (Champion in the 4X800m Relay, 4X400m Relay, and a second place finish in the 600m), CJ Sousis also competed in the 3200m and 1600m taking a second and third respectively. Albert Scardera 2 ran excellent races in the 1000m and the 4X400m Relay with Aaron Fuller helping the . The Knights have been finalists for the championship but this was thr first time that they took home the gold for Lansingburgh. It was a total team effort and the boys worked incredibly hard we are all very proud of them!
Girls Track and Field Team Competes in SectionalsThe Lansingburgh Lady Knights competed at the Sectional Championship meet at the University of Albany on Feb 21st, 2010. The Lady Knights had a personal record run in the 600m by Cate Houshower running a 1:59.4. A fourth place finish for Kayla Mason 1000m in a time of 3:28, Jess Howansky placed in both the Long Jump and Triple Jump, and the 4X800m Relay team of Cate Houshower, Kayla Mason, Katie Foley, and Blair Meeson in the time of 10:47 for a 2nd place sectional patch.
Wrestling News
The wrestling team just finished a long hard stretch of wrestling. The first weekend of February the team travelled to Burnt Hills for the Class B Sectionals. Of the seven wrestlers competing, four placed:
- Will Richards - 2nd Place at 112 pounds
- Drew Oligney - 3rd Place at 125 pounds
- Austin Schnapp - 2nd Place at 160 pounds
- Chad Obzud - 1st Place at 171 pounds
Those four wrestlers started their Winter Recess by spending it at the Glens Falls Civic Center for the Wrestling Sectionals. All four did a great job representing their school, team, and families. Senior Will Richards was seeded 3rd in his weight class and finished 2nd in the Sectionals. Sophomore Drew Oligney was seeded 6th in his weight class but ran into tough competition and did not place. Senior Austin Schnapp was seeded 3rd in his weight class and wrestled a tough tournament and finished 4th. Senior Chad Obzud was seeded 2nd in his weight class and took first place. Chad is the school's first sectional champion. Chad also became the first wrestler in school history to place at the State Tournament with his 6th place finish.
Will, Austin, and Chad all became members of the 100 win club this year. Their names will be put on a plaque that hangs in the display case outside the Media Center. They will be among only six other wrestlers to do this in school history.
Cheerleading Competition Results
Congratulations to the Junior Varsity Cheerleading team for placing 2nd in the Non-Tumbling JV division. They went against 5 other teams: Ravena, Mohonasen, Columbia, Troy and Catholic High.
Varsity placed 1st in the Non-Tumbling Varsity division. They went agaist 9 other teams: Ravena, Rensselaer, Catholic High, Troy High, Albany, Mayfield, Bishop Maginn, Tamarac and Taconic Hills.
Lansingburgh Scores Touchdown at Unity House
