Congratulations to Connor Gallo!
Lansingburgh High School senior Connor Gallo was recently named to receive a Scholar-Athlete award from the New York State High School Football Coaches Association. Gallo, a two-year starter at quarterback for the Knights, receives the award based on his academic grade point average, class rank and on-field achievements. Gallo ranks in the top six percent of the current senior class. About 30 football players from around the state are recognized with a Scholar-Athlete award from the organization. "He was an outstanding team leader for us," said Lansingburgh football coach Pete Porcelli, whose team advanced to the state's Class A championship game before its season ended. "He's very athletic, very versatile and was a good team captain. He is a real leader by example. He is definitely deserving of the award."
The state association, founded in 1994, is a comprised of coaches from every section in New York State, including on the high school and college level. It also includes athletic directors and retired coaches. The list of Scholar-Athlete award winners will be published in "From the Sidelines," a newsletter for association members that will be published later this month. -
